What is Circuit Training – and why should you try it?

Have you ever felt like your workout is getting a bit too monotonous? Or are you missing an effective and fun class where you can break a sweat and feel your whole body working? Then circuit training might be just for you! At my studio, Frog Pilates, I offer circuit training that combines strength, cardio, and a smile on your face—all in just one hour.

What is circuit training exactly?

Circuit training is a workout format where you move between different stations with exercises that challenge your body in various ways. Each station has a specific exercise that you perform for a set time—usually 30-60 seconds—before moving to the next station. This can include squats, planks, or core exercises on the mat. It’s effective, fast-paced, and never boring.

Why does circuit training work?

Circuit training combines both strength and cardio training, giving you a complete workout in a short time. By working in intervals, we keep the heart rate up and muscles activated, boosting your metabolism during and after the workout. It’s the perfect form of exercise if you have a busy schedule but still want to feel like you’re doing something great for your body.

Why is circuit training a good supplement to Pilates?

Circuit training is a fantastic complement to your Pilates workout because it builds on the same foundational principles. We focus on body awareness, core strength, and proper technique—just like in Pilates. Additionally, we use TRX, dumbbells, and other tools to challenge the body in new ways and create variety in the training.

What can you achieve with circuit training?

  1. Stronger body: You strengthen both large and small muscle groups, which results in a more balanced and functional body.

  2. Improved fitness: The intervals get your heart rate up and improve your endurance.

  3. Increased fat burning: The high intensity causes your body to burn calories both during and after the workout.

  4. More energy in daily life: As your body becomes stronger and more enduring, you gain more energy for work, leisure, and family.

  5. Community and motivation: In my circuit training classes, we train together, support each other, and have fun—even when the muscles are singing.
