Pilates & Fertility Treatment
Fertility treatment is, for many women, a journey filled with hope, waiting, and hormonal fluctuations. It can be both physically and mentally demanding – and this is where the right movement can make a real difference.
At Frrog Pilates in Nørrebro, I meet many women who are undergoing or considering fertility treatment. Many ask: "Can I even exercise?" and "What is good for my body right now?" The answer is yes – you can definitely exercise, and yes, it can actually be an important support for both your body and your nervous system. But it's about choosing the right form of exercise.
Why Classical Pilates during fertility treatment?
Classical Pilates is gentle yet effective. It's a method where we work with breathing, centering, and awareness of the deep stabilizing muscles – especially the pelvic floor, abdomen, and back.
When you're in fertility treatment, your body often needs calmness and regulation. Here, Pilates is a powerful tool because it:
Strengthens and relaxes the pelvic area, without pressure or overstimulation.
Supports hormonal balance, among other things, through breathing and regulation of the nervous system.
Increases blood circulation to the pelvic region, which can have a positive effect on the uterus and mucous membranes.
Counteracts stress and unrest in the body, which can affect both the cycle and overall well-being.
We work at a calm pace, with great respect for where you are in your cycle or treatment. You'll have the space to both feel your body and strengthen it – in a way that feels safe and good.
What does the research say?
Recent research and recommendations from the Health Authority emphasize the importance of physical activity for women undergoing fertility treatment:
Physical activity is beneficial for both mother and child during pregnancy and can reduce the risk of complications such as pre-eclampsia and gestational diabetes.
Strength training, including training of the pelvic floor, is recommended as part of the daily physical activity for pregnant women.
Lifestyle interventions with physical training and diet can improve hormonal balance and insulin sensitivity in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a common cause of infertility.
Pilates and fertility – What should you be aware of?
The most important thing is that the training doesn't overstimulate or stress the body. It's not about pushing yourself – but about supporting and balancing.
Therefore, it's a good idea to choose:
Training with an experienced Pilates instructor who has insight into fertility and women's health.
Small groups with individual guidance (with me, there's a maximum of 8 participants per group).
Training focused on breathing, centering, and gentle movement rather than high intensity.
An investment in you – regardless of the outcome
No matter where you are in your fertility journey – and regardless of how it ends – your body is worth taking care of. Classical Pilates not only gives you a stronger core and better posture. It gives you connection to your body, a space to feel yourself, and a place where you don't have to perform.
And that can be a huge gift in a process where much else is about numbers, tests, and waiting.
New course for women undergoing fertility treatment
I'm now launching a special Pilates course tailored for women undergoing fertility treatment or who have experienced loss during pregnancy.
The course focuses on calmness, presence, and strengthening of the whole body – conducted in a safe and respectful environment at my studio in Nørrebro.
